ALICE MCCALL @ MERCEDEZ BENZ FASHION WEEK AUSTRALIA
Alice McCall’s Cruise 13-14 collection, ‘Les Galeries de Poison’ showcased functional, architectural silhouettes with an element of romance constructed from beautiful, fluid fabrics and prints. Taking inspiration from German botanist illustrator, Ernst Haekel and the intricate Art Nouveau jewels of French artist René Jules Lalique, Alice McCall explores the magic of l’océan. Resulting in a collection in subtle tones of bones, seashell pink, champagne, Mexican pink and ultramarine. Even the silhouettes mimicked elements of the ocean with jellyfish like silhouettes, circle cut silk jumpsuits replicating sea urchins and sheer ruffled floating down the runway like tendrils of sea grass. The collection also brought back the flared pants, which for me was a bold move but was executed beautifully. This cruise collection was a great balance of intricate details of pleats, folds, ruffles, cocooned oversized shoulders and peplum hemmed skirts balanced beautifully with minimal clean-cut lines and simple silhouettes.
